On October 15, 2003, Tagadus Gifts and Collectables was born! What was already a very special day for us because of the birth of our son 34 years earlier became even more significant with the Grand Opening of our new store! Tagadus was conceived on a wing and a prayer by two individuals, Phyllis and Gene Schwarting, who had never been in retail before! Boy, did we have a lot to learn!
After purchasing an abandoned store front in early 2003, many months of grueling physical labor began with Gene doing most of the work – painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work you name it! All talent that had gone untapped for 35 years began to emerge in Gene due to financial necessity! Our sad, eyesore of a building gradually turned into quite an attractive spot in our small, rural town of Bamberg, South Carolina.
Well, it seemed we had our store, but what is a store without a name? We tried to think of a name that people would remember. Our grandsons, TAv, GArris, and DUtch finally provided the inspiration we needed! We took the first two letters of each of their three names and came up with TAGADUs. Its amazing how many people ask us how we came up the name Tagadus. Its even more amazing how many people remember that its named after our boys. (Who by the way have been joined by our fourth grandson Gage! How blessed we are!)
Our goal at Tagadus has always been to bring a service to our small community by providing quality gifts and collectibles so that our customers do not have to go the city to get a gift which they can give with pride. We like to say we carry unique gifts for unique people! We are always looking for new and exciting lines while keeping our customers needs in mind. We have now evolved from the local store front operation which we continue to the World Wide Web. What a journey we have traveled! We invite you to our store for some great southern hospitality!
